Please Do Not Feed the Muscovy Ducks
Feb 5, 2026Feeding Muscovy ducks may seem kind, but it actually causes serious harm to both the ducks and the lake environments they gather around.
Here’s why feeding Muscovy ducks is discouraged:
- It harms their health: Human food—especially bread—provides little to no nutrition and can lead to illness, deformities, and long-term health problems in Muscovy ducks.
- It damages the ecosystem: Leftover food attracts pests, increases algae growth, and disrupts the natural balance of our lakes and ponds.
- It leads to overpopulation: Muscovy ducks reproduce quickly. Feeding them encourages large flocks to form, which results in shoreline erosion, damage to the lakeshore, excessive waste, and damage to surrounding vegetation.
- It causes problematic behavior: When regularly fed, Muscovy ducks lose natural foraging instincts, become dependent on human food, and may become aggressive toward people, pets, and other wildlife.
Please enjoy wildlife from a distance and help keep our lake areas clean and thriving
